FAQ

Whether you are a seasoned past participant, or thinking of attending this year for the first time, we encourage you to sign up for Summer Institute, and we also want to provide some details/answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) that might be helpful:

What is the cost of registration?

There is no cost to districts or individuals for participants to attend the Summer Institute – it is free to members!

How do I know which ECLC Cohort I am in?

Please consult our website, which lists all districts and their Cohorts 1-3 here.

Who can attend?

We welcome and encourage anyone from the 15 ECLC member districts who identifies as an educator and/or supports student learning in any way from ECLC schools to register – this includes teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, school-based clinicians, school support staff, education interns/trainees, and more! If you have any questions on who should participate from your district, please do not hesitate to reach out to us…

What will I learn/gain?

The theme of this year’s ECLC Summer Institute is “Building Community Through Conversation,” and we are dedicating three days to the art, science, and skill of dialogue. We have heard from our member districts that now, possibly more than ever before, receiving additional support/training to help educators have difficult conversations among both adults and students on a range of issues is a paramount need and concern. In response, we have invited our friends at Essential Partners (EP) to facilitate and co-lead this year’s Summer Institute. EP is a national non-profit organization based locally in Cambridge that specializes in working with schools, civic groups, and organizations across the globe to build trust and understanding across differences. EP will be introducing their unique approach to reflective dialogue and inquiry, and participants will try out and leave with a set of useful practices to apply in their school settings. We have also invited a whole host of local/national experts on social emotional learning, equity, redesigning for justice, adaptive challenges, parent and family engagement, change leadership, and more who will present/share best and emerging practices as well as resources, all under the umbrella of building community and conversation. Participants will gain a new set of tools, a new set of partners, new energy, and more confidence to engage with each other and students this coming school year…

Where will we gather?

This year, our team is delighted offer an in-person Summer Institute event for the first time since the pandemic began! On Day 1 of Summer Institute (August 2), which is for new Cohort 3 districts only, we will hold activities at The Wylie Inn & Conference Center at Endicott College in Beverly. On Days 2-3 (August 3-4), which are open to all ECLC district members, we will gather across the street at Endicott’s Wax Academic Center in Beverly. We will share more details about the event locations and parking for registrants before the event…

When will we gather?

Please note that Day 1 (August 2) of the Summer Institute is limited to Cohort 3 ECLC districts only for orientation, while Days 2-3 of the Summer Institute (August 3-4) are open to all members of Cohorts 1, 2, and 3 as days dedicated to cross-district learning experiences. Depending upon your district, you will be able to indicate which days you are signing up for on the registration form here…

How will I apply what I learn?

The great thing about ECLC’s Summer Institute event is that it is designed based upon the needs we hear from you our members, and it serves as a launch-pad for the work of the coming school year. This means that ECLC provides PD, coaching, and thought partnership to support the work that begins at Summer Institute all year-long. Participants will not only leave Summer Institute with new tools, resources, and partners for their work this year, but you will also be supported in the coming 2022–2023 school year to apply, implement, and sustain the learning from this summer!
